Where the idea started
The Front Nine Project began on a golf course, on an ordinary afternoon with my son. He had a tough shot — bad lie, long carry, nothing about it easy — and he put it on the green. What stuck with me wasn't the shot. It was the conversation that followed as we walked up the fairway: about pressure, patience, and how you learn to handle a situation you've never been in before.
I've spent more than 25 years in the electrical, security, fire alarm, and automation trades, and several of those years teaching trade school students. I've watched talented young people graduate with real skills and still struggle to get in the room — the job site trailer, the office, the lunch where the next opportunity actually gets discussed. Nobody taught them how to walk into those rooms. Golf, it turns out, is one of the best classrooms there is for exactly that.
Mission and Values - What we do
The Front Nine Project uses golf as a bridge between trade school students and the professional world they're about to enter. Our programs pair students with working tradespeople, contractors, engineers, and business owners on the course, where the conversation is relaxed, the time is unhurried, and the relationships are real.
Students learn the game, but more importantly they practice the skills that carry a career: how to introduce yourself, how to hold a conversation with someone twenty years ahead of you, how to follow up, how to conduct yourself when it counts. They leave with a network they didn't have before and the confidence to use it.
